How Ferrite Arc Magnets Are Precision Ground: 3 Common Machining Methods
10th June 2026
Arc magnets (also known as ferrite magnet segments) require precise grinding to meet the dimensional and surface finish requirements for motor assembly. Here’s a breakdown of the three most common grinding processes we use at Gaomu Magnet:
🔹 1. Basic Manual Grinders
Suited for small-batch production and prototyping
Low initial cost, but highly dependent on operator experience
Best for applications with less stringent tolerance requirements
🔹 2. Single-Stage Grinders
Higher automation than manual grinders
Completes one precision operation (inner/outer arc or end face) per cycle
Delivers consistent accuracy for medium-volume orders
🔹 3. Through-Feed Continuous Grinders
Fully automated, high-volume solution
Performs 6-sided forming grinding in one continuous pass
The standard choice for mass production at large-scale factories
At Gaomu Magnet, we tailor our grinding strategy to your project’s scale and precision needs, from low-volume custom samples to high-volume motor-grade magnet production.

Ferrite replacing Rare Earths? It’s not just a theory anymore.
8th June 2026
In the motor industry, many still believe “High Performance = Rare Earth (NdFeB).” But facing volatile prices and supply chain risks, “Rare Earth-Free” solutions are already a commercial reality.
Here are 3 successful cases of Ferrite adoption that every engineer and purchaser should know:
1. The Cross-Industry Benchmark: Gree Kaibang
Back in 2010, they launched rare-earth-free synchronous reluctance motors, now used in over 100 million variable frequency air conditioners. More impressively, this tech has scaled to main drive motors for commercial EVs (40-200kW), achieving IE5 ultra-premium efficiency.
2. The “Hidden Champions” in HVAC Compressors
Giants like Panasonic Wanbao and Rechi have proven that for units under 1.5HP, Ferrite VFD compressors can fully meet Tier 1 energy efficiency standards. When rare earth costs spike, Ferrite is the ultimate stabilizer.
3. The Tech Roadmap from Japan
Proterial (formerly Hitachi Metals) has already prototyped EV motors using only Ferrite magnets that meet power requirements. This proves that with innovative magnet placement and circuit design, the performance boundaries of Ferrite are constantly being pushed.
💡 My Takeaway:
The core challenge is no longer “Can Ferrite work?” but “How do we optimize magnetic circuit topology (like SynRM designs) to maximize its cost-performance ratio?”
If you are exploring cost-down solutions or interested in Ferrite motor design, let’s connect!

What is the function of more motor magnet pieces? Does more pieces mean higher torque?
6th June 2026
Different motors have different requirements for permanent magnets.
For motor ferrite arc magnets, some adopt 8-piece splicing, some use 10 pieces, and others with more segments.
There is a common misunderstanding:
Does more magnet pieces bring higher motor torque?
Actually, more magnet pieces do not equal higher torque.
The more arc magnet segments on the rotor, the closer it is to a perfect circle, making the air gap more uniform.
It ensures smoother magnetic field transition, more stable motor operation, even torque output, and lower vibration & noise.
Motor torque is generated by the combined action of
rotor magnet field and stator coil field:
✅ Magnet performance: Depends on ferrite grade (Y30/Y35/Y40), magnet height and thickness
✅ Stator performance: Determined by silicon steel material, coil turns and slot filling rate.
More coil turns and full copper winding deliver higher torque under the same current.
The number of magnet segments mainly affects
pole pairs, running stability, noise and speed characteristics,
it does not directly determine motor torque.
Pole pair design is mainly for adjusting low-speed and high-speed performance,
not simply relying on more magnet pieces for stronger power.
Low pole pair motors usually use arc tile ferrite magnets,
which perfectly fit rotor structure, optimize air gap, reduce magnetic leakage,
and improve overall motor efficiency, not only focusing on high torque.
